After Corrective Eye Surgery

The effects of corrective eye surgery (laser eye surgery) vary considerably depending on each case. For this reason, your doctor should explain you what is going to happen to you right after corrective eye surgery. The following are some recommendations which are applicable to most cases:
Immediately After Corrective Eye Surgery

  • Go to the Clinic with another person, because after laser surgery you will not see well and will need the help of another person.
  • The doctor will usually request that you stay in the Clinic right after laser eye surgery to confirm that everything has gone and is going well.
  • Do not make any plans for the day of the corrective surgery. It is best to spend the rest of the day in a dark room. The next day your eyes and your vision will be better.
  • You must prepare and take to the Clinic a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes which are particularly sensitive the day of the operation and the days following surgery.
  • You will need to take eye drops every hour.

After the First Day

  • During the first few months, you should put drops in your eyes frequently. It is important to keep your eyes very well lubricated at all times.
  • It is highly recommended that you buy special protective glasses to protect your eyes (of any possible hits) the days and first weeks that follow corrective eye surgery (laser surgery). It is recommended that you sleep with them to avoid rubbing your eyes.
  • If you play any contact sports, you should also use protective glasses to protect your eyes. This is especially important the first weeks and months that follow the corrective eye surgery.
  • If you have small children at home, make sure you protect your eyes with protective eye glasses when you play with them.
  • For some time, you should be careful of not rubbing your eyes.
  • Your doctor (ophthalmologist) should give you an appointment to check the results of the surgery, usually the next day or a few days after corrective surgery.
